New contributions in academic and theoretical perspectives

The thesis clarifies the theory of competition in general and competition on business in the telecommunications sector in particular, the reality of competition in the business sector of Vietnam telecommunications through the actual business of 6 key players in Vietnam telecommunications including Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group, Vinaphone, Mobifone, Viettel, S-Fone, EVN Telecom and Hanoi Telecom (the first three companies account for 95% of Vietnam's telecommunications market share).

The thesis analyzes the business experience of major telecommunications companies of China (China Telecom), South Korea (Korea Telecom) and Australia (AT&T; Intel Corp), thereby drawing experience for telecom service business in Vietnam.

The thesis analyzes and assesses the effectiveness, competitive advantage in business and political theory in telecommunication service business in Vietnam in general and Hanoi Telecom in particular through the application of Michael Porter's business model (bargaining power of suppliers is high, competitive rivalry is high, bargaining power of buyers is high, threat of new entry is high and threat of substitution is high). Simultaneously, the thesis also analyzes the competitiveness of Vietnam telecommunications in the context of international integration through the application of SWOT theory.

The thesis clarifies trends, context, direction and goals of telecommunications business in Vietnam to 2020 with a vision to 2030 (previous studies only studied telecommunications service business in the past) in order to propose remedies, recommendations for Vietnam telecommunications business development in the coming years.

New findings and proposals are drawn from the research and survey results of the thesis

The dissertation points out the factors affecting the competitive efficiency in reality of telecommunications business in Vietnam in terms of economy, society and environment. Thereby, the dissertation also points out the strategies that Vietnamese companies are applying to expand market share and improve competitiveness including price competition strategies, after-sales and diversified strategies of telecommunications services, customer care strategies, etc. As the result, it shows that pricing strategies (maintaining rates 10-15% lower than competitors, negotiating rates and ratio of value-added services with entertainment providers, etc.) are the most popular, followed by promotion.

The thesis verifies the correlation between the population, the population structure and the telecommunications business (the higher the population, the higher the number of telecommunications users, for example China or a country with a young population structure, there was high growth rate of telecommunications development due to high demand for learning, entertainment and social networking of the youth).

In the proposals for the development of telecommunications services business and socio-economic development in Vietnam in the context of national economic transformation and integration with the global economy, there are solutions that have been tested in practice. Others are referencing experiences from other telecommunication service enterprises, which are feasible for the development of telecommunication services and socio-economic development in Vietnam.

The thesis has not analyzed in depth the impact of the 4.0 revolution on telecommunications business in Vietnam, this is an open research direction for the next research thesis.
