New academic and theoretical contributions:
The thesis "Social Security in the Northern Key Economic Region" has contributed to a number of theoretical summarization issues:
(1) The thesis on social security (SS) in the Northern Key Economic Region (KER) has contributed to systematizing and providing a more in-depth study of the theoretical foundation for SS and regional development.
(2) The thesis has brought up the concept of SS; characteristics of SS, five structural elements, functions, principles, roles, and puts an emphasis on the relationship between SS and economic growth from a development economics perspective.
(3) The thesis has presented factors affecting SS (including five factors, i.e. national development paradigm, legal environment, natural conditions, culture - society, and new context).
(4) The thesis has identified some criteria to evaluate the efficiency of SS (insurance; labor and employment; poverty reduction) in relation to economic growth in regional economic development.

New findings and practical contributions:
(1) The thesis has provided an analysis of practical experience in regional SS in China and Thailand and drawn lessons for Viet Nam.
(2) The thesis has provided an objective evaluation of the current status of SS in the Northern KER as a growth pole across five afore-mentioned elements and the relationship between SS and economic growth, especially in the years of 2010-2021 and during the recent period; identified the achievements, remaining limitations and their causes as well as factors affecting SS in the Northern KER.
(3) The thesis has provided an analysis of the new context (climate change, natural disasters, and epidemics; globalization and integration; industrial revolution 4.0 and digital transformation; global geo-political conflicts; and requirements for the development of the Northern KER). The thesis has produced a SWOT analysis to clearly indicate the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and challenges for SS in the Northern KER.
(4) The thesis has brought up three perspectives on SS in the Northern KER, six groups of overall solutions for SS and five specific solutions corresponding to five elements of SS in the Northern KER with an aim to enhancing the guarantee of SS in the Northern KER./.
