New academic and theoretical contributions

(1) Systematized the theoretical andpractical basis of the concept of the city-region,the formation and development of the city-region,the factors affecting the formation and development of the city -region in association with the practical situations in Vietnam.

(2) Developeda research framework on the formation and development of the city-region, built the case for the formationand development of the Can Tho city-regionin a scientific way.

(3) Developed a six-step process, usinggravity model as the main research method, to determine the city-regional boundary of Can Tho city-region giventhe existing conditions in terms of available data and information inVietnam.

Newfindings and proposals drawn from the research and survey results of the thesis

Based on the analysis and assessment ofthe current status of research on the city-region in general, the formation anddevelopment of the Can Tho city-region in particular, the thesis has made the followingpractical contributions:

(1) Explainedin detail the inadequacies and gaps in the current legal framework for city-regionsin Vietnam.

(2) Evaluated the favorable andunfavorable factors in the formation and development of Can Tho city-region.The factors related to the development situation of Can Tho city-region havebeen concluded.

(3) Developed viewpoints, goals andprinciples for the formation and development of the Can Tho city-region by2030, with a vision to 2050. Proposing orientations and solutions to completethe process of forming and developing Can Tho city-region in the near future.
